Conversations of the Day

Conversation #1
Brielle - Daddy when I get old to drive I want to get a van.
Grant - Really?  Why a van?
Brielle - Well, you know when I drive kids around or you and mommy you can sit in the back and watch TV (convinced all vans have TVs).
Grant - I think you might change your mind when you turn 16.
Brielle - No.  No I won't.

Sweet!  We are holding you to that Ladybug!

Conversation #2
Brielle - I know what cake I want for my birthday.
Me - What do you want?
Brielle - It's not appropriate.  It's Sponge Bob.

haha!  Good thing she knows my feelings about Sponge Bob.  Good thing her birthday is a long way away!  :)

Conversations of the Day

Brielle has really been sharing more about her day at school which is truly an amazing experience!  She tells us cute stories and events that occur on her own.  I hope she never stops!

However, I won't hide the fact that some of these conversations scare me and at the same time make me laugh out loud.  I'm probably being paranoid or over dramatic (where did she get that? ha!) but I'm sure my eyes are popping out of my head when she tells me about her school gallivants.

Conversation #1
Brielle - Did you know I kissed River on the cheek?
Me - Uh......no.  What do you mean?
Brielle - I kissed River on the cheek.
Me - At school?
Brielle - Yes.
Me - Usually we give our friends a high-five or hug.  You should try that next time.  We don't kiss our friends.
Brielle - Well, River doesn't like hugs and the teachers say we should keep our hands to our self because we spread germs with our hands (touche teachers...touche).
Me - Well giving kisses spreads germs too.  Just tell him that you are his friend.  I don't think it's ok to kiss our friends.  I don't think your teachers would like it either.  Where were you?
Brielle - Behind the bushes.  He kissed me on the cheek too.

AHHH!  AHHH!  What is going on here?

Conversation #2
Brielle - Did you know that Oscar told me that in Australia - only Australia - there are zombies on top of the trees.
Me - Really?  That's interesting.  I've never heard of that.  I'm not so sure if he's right.  What do you think?
Brielle - Well he said there's zombies on the top of trees and that's why he doesn't want to go to Australia.  That's why I don't want to go to Australia either.
Me - Well, I think we should do some more research on this to check on Oscar's information.
Brielle - Ok.

Priceless conversation between two four year olds!

Drama...Drama....Drama

Brielle throws fits like all kids.  She likes to cross her arms, stomp, cry, etc.  We are super blessed that we don't experience too many fits, but they do happen.  In fact, it's almost hard not to laugh when she crosses her arms and goes stomping off somewhere.  It's so darn cute!

Lately, we have experienced some very drama-filled fits.  She starts with the regular crying then it turns to high-pitched screaming.  She still crosses her arms and stomps around too.  The new addition to her fits is her super exaggerated language.

Our personal favorite is "It's ruined!!!!!  It's ruined!!!!!  You ruined it!!!!!!"  We have received this line about an old dead flower, half a can of lemonade, etc.

We also had a 10 minute sob session about her hair not being curly enough after she slept in curlers all night.  Oh sheesh.

I guess our job is to teach Brielle how to handle her disappointments and frustrations in life a bit more appropriately.  There are times at work where I wish I could scream "It's ruined!!!!! It's ruined!!!!! You ruined it!!!!!!"  But alas we all hold back.  We love you ladybug!  You are funny and too darn cute even when you are upset!

Funky Momma and Mr. Stinky Feet Concert

We had a blast at Summit Fair last night with the Turnboughs!  We started the night at McCalisters for dinner.  Yum!  Then we headed to Main Street in Summit Fair for the kids' concert.  Funky Momma played first and Brielle ran out there right away.  John and Sophia joined Brielle and they all danced, jumped, and high-fived the night away!  We can't make a trip to Summit Fair without Yogurtini, so the whole group enjoyed a bit of sugar.  After dancing, singing, and enjoying ice cream Brielle wanted to shop.  So we briefly took the kids to one of the stores - briefly.  The sugar was kicking in!  There was a 'magic man' on the sidewalk that Brielle was infatuated with.  He did some tricks (2) and the kids thought he was hysterical - pretty much the funniest thing they had ever seen.  However, it might have been the Yogurtini that made him such a hit but no matter what the cause the kids were having the best time ever!  The night was perfect too!  Best weather in months!  Sophia also loved Brielle.  It was too cute!  She would hold Brielle's hand everywhere and give her hugs.  Thanks for a great time Jodi, Matt, Sophia, and John!
Maybe we can do it again next year!

Happy Healthy Heart

We celebrated Brielle's happy, healthy heart at California Pizza Kitchen!

Daddy/Daughter Day

Grant took a day off work (my first day back to work) to have a Daddy/Daughter Day with Brielle.  I think it was a big hit, so it might become a new tradition.  This year included the zoo, Paradise Park, Panera, and the pool!  What a fun day!!!!!!!

Wow!  Check out those polar bears!

Those monkeys are stinky!

Riding the sky safari!  What fun!!!!

Painting faces at Paradise Park!

Brielle can't wait for Daddy/Daughter Day 2013!

Special Visit

Well, we had a very special visit from Aunt Jill, Uncle Scott, Aunt Tiffany, and Uncle Jay in late July.  Great Grandma Gengelbach passed away.  It was truly a celebration of her amazing life.  We were able to hear stories about Patty and spend time with family - all things that would make her proud.

We did not take pictures.  I'm so disappointed.  Grant and I decided we always forget to take pictures when we are at our house.  :(  Boo!  At any rate, we enjoyed Chipotle with Aunt Jill and Uncle Scott when they arrived from New York.  We played tons of games like Munchkin, Candy Land, Spades, and Pitch.  We enjoyed a family dinner with the Gengelbachs in Plattsburg as well.

One funny memory is Brielle 'tricking' Uncle Scott.  Oh my - this made for at least an hour of screams, giggles, and fun!  Grant taught Brielle to say 'Uncle Scott...what's that over there?'  She would point in another direction and then run by him as fast as she could.  She did this at least a million times.  Occasionally Uncle Scott wouldn't fall for this clever trick, but most of the time Brielle got by him.  Then she would shout "I just tricked Uncle Scott!"  She also pulled the "Close your eyes Uncle Scott" and run by him trick.  This trick worked as well.  I wonder if Uncle Scott will be as easily tricked during the next trip?

Kansas City Fun

My cousin Jessie came to visit with her two boys Simon and Silas and my Aunt Donna.  Brielle and I had been wanting to go to Sea Life Aquarium and Lego Land all summer, but we wanted to go with friends and family.  We were so excited to have the boys, Jessie, and Aunt Donna come and visit!  It was the perfect time to have some Kansas City fun!

We started at Sea Life Aquarium.
Simon and Brielle loved getting in the bubbles!

The touch area was really fun!
It was filled with starfish, crabs, and more!
Another fun moment was the animated movie.  The kids were enthralled with the 'talking turtle' that hosted the show.  We took a quiz about octopuses and were surprisingly on the winning team!

Admiring the giant sea life!

More bubbles!

No Crown Center trip is complete without a stop at Fritz's.  It was NOT crowded for dinner on a Thursday night.  I could not believe it!  I guess we always pick the busiest times to go!
Secrets!

After dinner we headed to the dinosaur exhibit.  Brielle, Simon, and Silas had fun pretending to be paleontologists.

The next morning we headed to Lego Land!

We learned how Legos are made.

How much do you weigh in Legos and how tall are you in Legos?

Kansas City built out of Legos!  So neat!

Playing in the giant Lego tubs.
Brielle loved building her own Lego car and racing it too!

We can't wait until we see Simon and Silas again!
Thanks for a fun time!  Miss you already!

John's Birthday

Brielle had a blast at John's birthday party.  He had a baseball themed party which is perfect because he loves baseball and the movie Sandlot (he's been known to call himself Benny).  Well, we had to get 'fast shoes' for the party since she has recently outgrown her old ones.  We picked out a good pair of shoes because she was running around the bases for an hour straight.  Jodi had all kinds of baseball activities for the kids to do, including a baseball pinata!  Quite a hit!  For never really playing baseball, Brielle sure loved the party!  Thanks for a fun time John!  Happy 4th birthday!

Sorry this picture is a bit blurry, but it was a funny moment.  All of the kids took a popcorn break from playing baseball.  The girls at the party ate in the party room, but Brielle found herself with the boys admiring Pokemon.  She would nod along and was totally interested in the older boy's Pokemon knowledge.  I thought it was quite hysterical!
